Essential Upcoming College and Financial Aid Programs for Kennedy Students and Parents

The Kennedy Catholic Guidance Counseling Department is hosting a number of valuable college search and financial aid programs in the upcoming months of December and January to aid both students and parents in managing both of these sometimes complicated and strenuous processes.  All programs will be hosted at the high school.  The four upcoming programs being offered are:

Monday, December 6, at 8:15 -9:15 AM: Making Your College Search Count provides high school juniors and their parents with crucial information on how to conduct an effective college search. The program covers every aspect of the college search from visiting schools to the application process. It provides students with a working plan that makes the process of choosing a college more realistic.  It breaks down the college search process into manageable steps which includes evaluating potential schools and narrow the options by selecting only those schools that are the right fit for them; conducting an effective college visit; unlocking the mystery of how colleges select students; and unraveling the complicated financial aid process and understand the differences between scholarships, grants and loans.  (Reprinted from http://makingitcount.com) Parents are welcome at this program.

Tuesday, December 14 at 7 PM: Financial Aid Program: ALL students and parents, grades 9-12 are encouraged to attend this  critical,  ‘nuts and bolts’ 101 Financial Aid session presented by Ms. Heather McDonnell, Associate Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at Sarah Lawrence College. The program will cover a wide range of information from the how to’s of estimating the ‘real cost’ of college for the family and the components of college costs to understanding and choosing amongst the various types of financial aid offered by colleges and universities as well as tips for filling out the required FAFSA and CSS Profile forms.

Tuesday, December 21 at 11:30 AM: Real college advice for college-bound seniors from recent Kennedy alumnae.  A select panel of fifteen recent Kennedy alumnae currently studying at a variety of colleges and universities will give an open Q&A session regarding preparation for the realities of college life.  The session will be moderated by Kennedy’s guidance counseling staff.

Tuesday, January 4 at 8:15 AM: Junior Forum on College Admissions : This is a jam-packed one- hour presentation during which Junior students will have the privileged opportunity to gain important information and suggestions as well as ask pertinent questions about the college exploration and admissions process with Mr. Chris Doyle, Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Marist College and Ms. Tova Tolman, Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Fordham University.
