“On The Town” is one of the most energetic Broadway musicals, a story full of youth and optimism written for a time when World War II held the global mindset hostage.  It was also the basis for landmark Hollywood musicals, starring Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly when it was first released in 1949.

“On The Town” follows three sailors through the streets of Manhattan as they try to find the poster girl, Ivy (played by Jena Lynne DiFrisco ’12 of Patterson), with whom one of them, Gabey (played by Nico Van Den Bergh ’11 of Yorktown) has fallen in love.

Upbeat and highly entertaining, “On The Town” features songs such as the iconic “New York, New York” that make everyone want to sing along.  It was our choice this year because it truly is a show for young people, as the sailors and girls the Kennedy Catholic Players portray are almost the same age as the actors themselves.

I performed one of the leading roles, Hildy, at the Volkstheater Rostock in my native Germany, and was able to use my past experience to help our two leads, Kim Galaraga ’11 of Carmel and Sabrina Shallo-Surace ’14 of Brewster, better their performance for that part.  Mostly, I’ve tried to share my excitement for these characters and this show with the entire cast.  And they, in turn, have poured their own hearts and souls into this production.
