Varsity, JV Softball win; Baseball Ties, Dedicates New Scoreboard; Girls Lax on a roll, boys drop 1st

It was a good day for Lady Gaels softball, as both squads recorded wins over Our Lady of Lourdes.  Jen Jamieson ’14 launched the first home run of the season, while Ashley Whitson ’16 and Rachel Entwistle ’13 combined for 5 RBIs in an 8-4 victory. Whitson went 3-for-5, while Entwistle was 2-for-3, including a triple, and also threw out two base runners. Jamieson noted that “bragging rights have been safely returned to Kennedy.”  The game was filmed by MSG Varsity; click for the full story and post-game interviews.  It was another offensive explosion for the Lady Gaels, who outscored Peekskill 38-3 during a season-opening home-and-away series last week.  It was also revenge in a home-and-away series with Lourdes, with Kennedy having fallen, 7-8, in an extra-innings thriller on April 9.

Meanwhile, JV softball improved to 2-1 with an exciting two-out, bottom-of-the-7th rally over Our Lady of Lourdes at home yesterday. Megan Fleitz ’15 knocked in Ally Kocovic ’16 with the tying run on a sacrifice for one of her 3 RBIs on the day. Christina Rowland ’16 scored the winning run from second off a blast to center field from Aileen Burt ’16, who had three great catches in center field. Caitlin McCullough ’16 helped the Lady Gaels’ cause with two hits. Kocovic improved her record to 2-1 as the winning pitcher. The JV Lady Gaels next game is at home against Poughkeepsie on Monday, April 15, at 4:30 p.m.

Following the blessing of the new scoreboard in center field, the baseball Gaels battled to a 3-3 tie with Mahopac before the game was called on account of darkness.  The boys are now 1-1-1 on the season.  The new scoreboard was made possible thanks to the generosity of Kennedy’s baseball families.

And rounding out Thursday’s scores, the boys lacrosse team fell to Putnam Valley, 4-10. The game was tight through three periods, with Kennedy behind by just two goals at one point in the third. But the Putnam Valley defensive kicked it up a notch, and the Gaels would not score again.  It was the first loss for Kennedy following season-opening victories over Edgemont and Ardsley. Boys’ lacrosse travels to Carmel this Saturday for an 11 a.m. match.

Not without mention is the Lady Gaels lacrosse team, which rides a three-game winning streak into Beacon tonight for a 4:30 p.m. match. The Kennedy girls are 3-1 following victories over Lourdes, Carmel and North Salem in back-to-back-to-back fashion. The Lady Gaels only loss was a season-opener at Putnam Valley.
