Inaugural Athletic Dinner recognizes fall season student-athletes

Athletic Dinner

In an endeavor to more accurately reflect the accomplishments of Kennedy Catholic’s student-athletes, the inaugural Fall Athletic Dinner was held on Nov. 20 at Colonial Terrace in Cortlandt Manor. This very successful celebration honored the Varsity athletes and coaches for Kennedy’s Fall 2013 sports’ teams:

Girls Volleyball Coach, Ellen Casey P’12***
Girls Field Hockey Coach, Pat Maurer*
Girls Soccer Coach, Matthew Tieber*/***
Girls Cheerleading Coach, Maryann Boccardi P’04,’06,’11,’13
Boys Football Coach, Rino Sangro, Matt Spillane ‘06**
Cross Country Coach, Sr. Janet*, Larry Elliott
Boys Soccer Coach Eduardo Porcel ***

Fr. Vaillancourt welcomed the attendees and said grace, followed by an introduction by our new Athletic Director, Mr. Frank Tolan, who emceed the awards. This new tradition aligns us with the customs of our contemporary high schools that customarily designate an evening formulated to showcase and celebrate the achievements and efforts of the student athletes.

Coaches have the option to designate a team MVP and Coach’s Award for their team. The following teams were recognized for the CCHS Awards: Girls’ Volleyball (state finalists), Girls’ Soccer, (state finalists) and Boys’ Soccer (City Championship finalists).

The dinner also included a table of KCHS spirit wear and a 50/50 raffle. Michael Paistorelo from “Unchained Entertainment” provided music, a video montage of the athletes, and a trivia game throughout the evening.

Special thanks to Frank Tolan and the Athletic Dinner Committee that included Patty Feeney, Jean Ryan, Pat Maurer, Ellen Casey, Kerrie Wieder, Christine DiChiara, Ellen McHale, Pat Clair, Seton Heslin-Scott and Susan Cunningham. Thank you also to Alan Drogy, owner of Colonial Terrace and the KCHS Food Service Manager, for a wonderful dinner.

The next KCHS Athletic Awards Dinner will be held on Wednesday, May 21, and will honor the Varsity athletes and coaches for the Winter and Spring Sports teams.
