Kennedy Catholic volleyball defeats Aquinas

Kennedy Catholic volleyball played its final regular season match on Wednesday against Aquinas High School.  Junior Varsity won in two sets: 25-16 and 25-18.  Varsity won in three sets: 25-8, 25-16 and 25-6.  The teams will play tie-breaker matches against Maria Regina (V) and Good Counsel (JV) on Friday night at Sacred Heart. Varsity will play at 4:45 with JV to follow.

Kennedy volleyball celebrates seniors with another win

Seniors Yay

Kennedy volleyball defeated Preston on Tuesday and bid farewell to their seniors: Mary Helen Baudinet, Mary Burns, Kelly Gallagher, Katelynn Ryan and Johanna Weidenhamer. Varsity won 3-0; 25-22, 25-11 and 25-14 and JV won 2-1 in a thriller; 23-25, 25-17 and 15-12.

Freshmen Volleyball Win Last Home Match

The freshmen volleyball team defeated Weston High School (CT) in their last home match of the season.  They won in straight sets, 25-12 and 25-19.  The freshmen team had a wonderful season and a great start at Kennedy Catholic High School.

Kennedy volleyball serves up another win

Kennedy volleyball defeated Sacred Heart in Yonkers on Friday, October 17.  Junior varsity won 2-0 and varsity won 3-0.  Kennedy’s serving propelled the game.  Katelynn Ryan and Mary Burns each had 9 aces.  Meagan Gallagher had 7 aces.  Kelly Gallagher had 5 aces and Caroline Tompkins, Danielle Kralik and Gianna Vesce each had 2 aces.  Alana Dinelli added another ace.

Kennedy volleyball defeats Good Counsel

Junior varsity defeated Good Counsel at home on Tuesday 2-1; GC 25-19, K 25-22 and K 15-11.  Varsity won in 3 sets, 25-9, 25-7 and 25-9.  It was a great day for service – Mary Burns had 14 serves with 4 aces while her sister, Annie, had 10 serves with 3 aces.  Danielle Kralik had 11 serves with 6 aces and Johanna Weidenhamer and Kelly Gallagher each had 10 serves.  Johanna had 4 aces and Kelly had 2.

The volleyball team travels to Sacred Heart (Yonkers) on Friday and Senior Day will be on October 21 against Preston.

Kennedy volleyball hosts St. Catherine’s

Kennedy volleyball hosted St. Catherine’s on Friday, October 10.  Junior varsity won 2-1; SCA 25-23, K 25-19 and K 15-5.  Varsity swept St. Catherine’s, 3-0; 25-14, 25-14 and 25-11. Mary Burns led the match with 8 Kills, Mary Helen had 7, Katelynn Ryan had 5 and Kelly Gallagher had 4 with 19 assists.  Katelynn Ryan led with serving – scoring 4 aces.  Mary Burns had 3 aces, Johanna Weidenhamer had 2 and Meagan Gallagher had 1.  The defense held St. Catherine’s scoring down.  Caroline Tompkins had 9 digs and 7 serve receives.  Megan Erb had 5 digs and 4 serve receives and Meagan Gallagher had 3 digs and 6 serve receives.  Tara Cooney and Gianna Vesce contributed an assist and a block each.  Tara also added another kill.  It was a great game for the underclassmen.  Danielle Kralik had her highest number of kills in her first year on varsity (6).  Francesca DelMonte and Sondra Montague each had 3 assists.  Teresa DeVino had 6 Digs and Annie Burns had 2 digs. Laurunce Rosenthal served the last point with an ace, her second of the game.

Both teams enjoyed an ice cream social after their games.

Kennedy volleyball competes against St. Francis Prep

On Thursday, the Kennedy Catholic volleyball teams hosted last year’s state champions, St. Francis Preparatory.  Junior varsity pulled off a thrilling victory in a tie-breaker, 19-25, 27-25, 15-12.  Varsity fought hard, and took a set away from last year’s state champs, but fell 3-1; 9-25, 26-24, 18-25 and 9-25.

The Kennedy Catholic freshmen volleyball team tacked on another win yesterday, defeating Weston (Connecticut) in straight sets: 25-19, 25-23, 25-19.

Kennedy volleyball bounces back against Cardinal Spellman

Following its first loss of the season against Maria Regina, the Kennedy varsity volleyball team bounced back in a big way, defeating Cardinal Spellman on Tuesday.  The Gaels won in three sets, 25-3, 25-19 and 25-11 to improve their record to 10-1.

The team scored several aces on their serves.  Mary Burns had six, Kelly and Meagan Gallagher had five apiece and Katelynn Ryan, Mary Helen Baudinet and Gianna Vesce each scored with an ace.  Mary Burns had 10 kills and Kelly Gallagher had 10 assists.

Kennedy’s junior varsity won 2-0; 25-13, 25-19.

Kennedy volleyball suffers first loss vs. Maria Regina

Kennedy Catholic’s (9-1) varsity volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to host Maria Regina 3-1 on Thursday, Oct. 2.

The Gaels, who defeated Maria Regina earlier in the season, won the first set 25-19, but dropped the next three 18-25, 24-26 and 17-25.

Junior varsity lost 2-1 to Maria Regina.  Maria Regina took the first set, 25-21. Kennedy won the second set, 27-25 and Maria Regina prevailed in the tie breaker, 15-11.

Kennedy will look to bounce back when it next takes the court when it travels to Cardinal Spellman on Tuesday, Oct. 7. Junior varsity plays at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity will compete afterwards.
