Auxiliary Gym
As Kennedy Catholic and its athletic programs continue to grow and thrive, the need for additional playing and practice facilities is as great as it has ever been. Following a run of at least four league championships in each of the past three years, the Gaels has undergone a campaign to renovate its outdoor sports surfaces. Construction is already complete on our new Baseball Diamond, now located across the pond along Route 138, along with our synthetically-turfed, multipurpose competition field, home now to our field hockey, football, lacrosse and soccer teams. Soon, our new Softball Diamond with a synthetically-turfed outfield will be ready for play, as well.
Turning its gaze inward, Kennedy is looking to renovate the Monsignor Boyle Gymnasium during the summer of 2012. Plans for this project include the complete replacement of our aging bleachers, as well as a resurfacing of the gym floor. A new logo will adorn the floor that is home to our defending champion boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball and volleyball teams.
But a renovated gym is not enough, not with freshmen, junior varsity and varsity basketball and volleyball teams all competing for gym time, not to mention offseason workouts for our other sports. For the past several years, our friends at the Brewster Sports Center have provided space for our freshmen basketball teams to play. And as grateful as we are for that relationship, it would be nice for all of our Gaels to play at “home”.
The model below depicts a two-level auxiliary gym that would sit on the present site of the now defunct Booster Hall, located directly behind the present gymnasium. This secondary gym would include playing surfaces on the bottom floor, and workout facilities on the second level. Concepts for the Auxiliary Gym were first announced at the 2011 President’s Dinner at Colonial Terrace in Cortlandt Manor.
