Frozen Notes – Written by Erin Joyce (Class of 2012)

The Kennedy Catholic/ Putnam Valley Ice Hockey Team finished this weekend 1-1 making their overall record 8-4-1.  On Friday afternoon, the Gaels took on the Yorktown Huskers.  After shutting out the Corn-Huskers 4-0 earlier in the season, Kennedy/ Putnam was ready for Yorktown to come out with revenge.  With a quick goal by Steven Santini is the beginning of the first period; the Gaels got the momentum to dominate the game finishing with an 8-2 victory.  Steven Santini led to Gaels with four goal and two assists.  The rest of the scoring was spread amongst the Gaels.  Andrew Rodriguez, Josh Loizeaux, Max Henry, and Aaron Lounsberry all contributed with one goal and one assist.  Also Mike Tierney chipped in with an assist from defense.

After Friday’s game, the Gaels took on New Rochelle Sunday night at the Brewster Ice Arena.  There was a lot of anticipation leading up to the big game.  Kennedy’s Steven Santini and New Rochelle’s Rich Prunesti faced off in a media-hyped game.  After the first period, it was a defensive deadlock, which caused the game to remain 0-0. Andrew Rodriguez scored early in the second to put the Gaels on the board, leading 1-0.  Heading into the third period, the Gaels were dominating with 23 shots to 8.  New Rochelle scored two goals early in the third period to go ahead, 2-1.  Then with less than three minutes left in the third, Steven Santini went on a fast break and scored a one legged goal while sliding into the boards.  But New Rochelle bounced back with a goal less than two minutes left in the game.  Unfortunately, the Gaels could not come back and fell to the Huguenots 3-2.  The score though does not show how hard the Gaels played.  They out shot the Huguenots 34-23 and prevented one of the best forwards in the section, Rich Prunesti from scoring a goal. Come support the Gael’s, as they face off against Mahopac on Sunday January 23rd at 8:20pm.
