Kennedy Takes Lead on Busing, Increases Shuttle Coverage

Kennedy Catholic was honored to work with state Sen. Greg Ball, Yorktown Councilman Terrence Murphy and our own trustee, North Salem Supervisor Warren Lucas ’72,P’98,’00,’04,’10, in the fight to preserve private school busing as provided by local districts.  We read with great pride the Senator’s note below, and have also rolled out new shuttle buses to increase the transportation options to Kennedy.  In addition to our regular shuttle bus to the Goldens Bridge Metro North Station (just a mile from the school), we now have a Dutchess County shuttle bus and will be adding a third run to Southern Westchester for the 2013-2014 school year.  It’s just another way that all roads lead to Kennedy.  Where will your road take you?

Hello Friend:

It is an honor to serve as your State Senator and while I am focused on the number one issue that effects us all, jobs, jobs, jobs, I am proud to inform you that private school busing provided by public school districts will not be restricted.

Hard working families struggling to give their children greater opportunities should not be consistently targeted by our state government. That is why in April, I worked with the administration at Kennedy Catholic to bring 50 parents like yourself to Albany. These parents and I met with Majority Leader Dean Skelos and the New York Senate leadership, and we secured their commitment on this issue.

Working with Father Mark Vaillancourt of Kennedy Catholic High School as well as Yorktown Councilman Terrence Murphy and North Salem Town Supervisor Warren Lucas, we were able to protect your rights as parents. Additionally, and as a proactive measure, I am a sponsor of current legislation, S2402A, to increase the radius from 15 miles to 25 miles.

As you know full well, the families that choose to send their children to parochial school are still paying school taxes and this busing is one of the few tangible benefits they receive. If this proposal became a reality, many families would have been unnecessarily hurt.

There is still more work to be done! Please know that I have sponsored several bills to increase state reimbursements to parochial schools, including legislation for full reimbursement of the MTA Payroll Tax.

From taxes to jobs, the environment to immigration, education to health care, unfunded mandates to consolidation, and government reform to homeland security, it is vitally important that we work together to find commonsense solutions that work to make New York great again!

Always know that your thoughts and concerns are appreciated and will be taken into consideration as I vote and conduct my duties as your State Senator.
