Ice Hockey Wins Thanksgiving Icebreaker Tournament


The Kennedy-Putnam Valley-Haldane Ice Hockey Team won the McLaughlin East Division of the 2012 WRPDIIHL Conference 1 Annual Thanksgiving Icebreaker Tournament over the holiday weekend.

On Friday, the teams kicked off the Tournament against Ossining and prevailed with a 3-1 victory. Max Henry, Austin Johnson and Gerard Martirano had the goals while Austin Johnson, Anthony Percacciolo and Gavin Garay had assists and Joey Molfetta had 7 saves and Jacob Cox had 3.

Saturday’s contest went down to the wire but the Gaels prevailed in a shootout. With the game tied after regulation and overtime, Joey Molfetta was perfect in net shutting down the Fox Lane Foxes, while the lone tally for the Gaels in the shootout was by Austin Johnson. Regulation goals by Mack Tierney & Drew Hamola kept it deadlocked until the shootout. Assisits by Gavin Garay and Gerard Martirano.
Molfetta had 12 saves.

Faced with a must win on Sunday for the Hardware, the boys came out flying and got a 5-1 lead after 2 periods. An early celebration, saw the lead cut to 5-4 but we were able to hang on for a 6-5 victory over Byram Hills and the Tournament Championship. Goals by Mack Tierney, Austin Johnson, Gerard Martirano, John Brabazon and 2 by Gavin Garay sealed the win. Assists by Mack Tierney (2), Austin Johnson, Gerard Martirano, Drew Homola, DJ DeSisto, Owen Thomas, Gavin Garay and Chris Lutz. Jacob Cox made 28 saves in net.

The Gaels’ record is now 2-1-1, with Pawling up next this Friday, Nov. 30 at 3:30 p.m. at the Brewster Ice Arena.
