The volleyball team defeated Croton-Harmon 3-0 Thursday night for the first Sectional title in program history.

After winning the first Sectional title in program history last night, the varsity volleyball team will play its first Regional game tonight against Millbrook, the Section 9 champion, at 7 p.m. at Carmel High School.

The volleyball continued its run through Class C competition with a 3-1 win over Westlake last night.  Caroline Erb led the way with 14 kills, seven aces, five blocks, three digs and one assist, while Kelly Gallagher tallied 27 assists to go along with five aces and 2 kills.

Kennedy split the first two games with Westlake, 25-7 and 22-25, respectively, before taking the last two, 25-14 and 25-20.  Anne Abbruzzese had a well-rounded match with nine kills, eight digs and six aces, and Megan Erb notched an incredible 25 digs with an ace and kill.  Juliana Gullotta (three kills), Kaitlyn Knox (six assists, one block) and Blair Lenzi (eight kills, four aces, two assists, one block) rounded out the scoring for the Lady Gaels.

“The girls have worked so hard this season, and making it to the sectional final is another milestone this team can be proud of,” coach Ellen Casey said.  “The girls are confident and they know that together as a team, we can accomplish anything.”

Top-seeded Kennedy will play No. 7 Croton-Harmon at Arlington High School in the Sectional Final today at 4:30 p.m., weather permitting as Winter Storm Athena bears down on the region.  Kennedy is providing a complimentary spectator bus to the game.  Students may sign up during their lunch periods on a first-come, first-served basis.
