Lady Gael Explores Career in Engineering at RIT

Encouraged by her physics teacher, Mrs. Georgia Ioannou, Kennedy junior Katelynn Ryan recently attended the Rochester Institute of Technology’s annual overnight program for the Society for Women in Engineering (SWE).

SWE Overnight is a program for female high school juniors  formulated to motivate and inspire young women interested in pursuing a career in engineering.   SWE attendees have the opportunity to explore a number of engineering fields via hands-on labs with current RIT engineering students.   A panel discussion was held with professional engineers and the program concluded with an engineering competition.

Katelynn described the event as  “a wonderful opportunity for female students to develop a mentoring relationship and experience life as a college student.”

Any students interested in the program should speak with Mrs. Ioannou , visit the RIT Society of Women Engineers or contact Jodi Carville, director of Women in Engineering.
