Martirano, Gaels rally past Nyack/TZ on ice

The Kennedy Catholic Gaels ice hockey team beat Nyack/Tappan Zee 7-5 last night to improve to 6-1.

The Gaels were down 3-1 after the first period, but scored four goals in the second to battle back to a tie, then got two unanswered goal in the third for the win.

Co-captain Gerard Martirano scored five goals and notched an assist. He played over 28 minutes to lead the team’s comeback. Co-captain Drew Homola and Mick Isola also had goals with assists by Griffin Ferreira, Robert Emig and Ronnie Lasonde and Tom Delfino.

“It was a great team effort,” coach Rob Santini said.

The Gaels next game is Sunday, Dec. 21 against the tough Brewster Bears at 4:30 p.m. at Brewster Ice Arena.

“We hope to see a big Kennedy crowd out there to help us get even with them for our only loss,” Santini said. “Go Gaels.”
