Fine Arts Serenades into Spring

On Thursday, April 7, Kennedy Catholic held its annual Spring Concert, featuring great performances from the Kennedy Band, Chorus, and String Ensemble.  As a member of Band, I for the most part had a lot of fun preparing for this performance.  Mr. Melito chose great songs for us to play, and after careful preparation and much trial and error, I think we did a great job.  I personally thought that “Finale from the Firebird Suite” sounded the best, and was a great ending to the concert.  As a percussionist, “Down by the Salley Gardens” was for me the most challenging, but I think we all sounded great.

Chorus did a great job, as always, with an excellent rendition of “O God Beyond All Praising.” Gianni Bove ’23 did a great job with a guest performance of “Both Sides, Now.” Molly Walsjh ’22 added: “My favorite part about the spring concert was the music chosen by Mrs. Boston. From the religious opening piece “O God Beyond All Praising” to the Beautiful “Answer to a Child’s Question”. The last piece performed by the chorus was “Never Enough” from the Greatest Showman. It is one of my favorite pieces we have ever performed as a chorus because of how amazing it sounded!”

One thing is on most students’ minds while we come to the end of the school year. And that is, Summer! So, the Strings Ensemble chose a piece accordingly with Summer from the Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi. With solos from our senior violinists, the piece was brought to life as we start to get ready for this semester to come to a close. Along with this, seniors Peggy Johnson (violin) and Liz Hartnett (harp) performed a heartfelt rendition of Dear Theodosia from the Tony Award winning musical, Hamilton. Senior violinist Jason Li also performed two profound solos which really impressed the audience.
