“Today is Ash Wednesday — a very special and sacred day for Catholics. It marks the beginning of Lent. A season where we are meant to slow down, to reflect, and to return our hearts more fully to God. It is a time to renew our faith in God and His plan or us. It is about remembering who we are and whose we are.
One of my favorite saints, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, taught that holiness is found in small acts done with great love. Those small acts are what Lent can be for you. Lent does not have to be dramatic. It can be simple — choosing kindness, being patient, forgiving someone, praying when no one sees us. Small sacrifices offered with love can transform our hearts.
I also want to say how proud we are of you. As a student body, you have shown a deep respect for prayer and for this sacred space. The quiet reverence you bring to Mass, the way you support one another, the way you pause when we pray — these may seem small acts but I want you to know that they are big to us and they are big to God. They are signs of a faith that is alive here at Kennedy Catholic.
As we begin this Mass together, let us ask God to make this Lent meaningful. May He soften our hearts, strengthen us, and draw us closer to Him and to one another.”
