Varsity Baseball Stays Step Ahead of League Rivals

As the season rapidly comes to a close, the Gaels look to defend their undefeated record in their league.

SOMERS, NY – As of April 26, 2022, Kennedy Catholic Varsity Baseball is defending a 9-0 league record heading into a tough stretch of league games this week. Last year the team lost in the City Championship to St. Joe’s by the Sea in a nail-biter match up. The Gaels have no intention of letting history repeat itself. This year, the team is composed of a half a dozen seniors committed to play Division 1 baseball, another half a dozen committed to play in Divisions 2 and 3, and deep bench talent getting ready for their senior season next year.

During the pre-season, the Gaels set themselves up for success with their victory over the 13th best team in the nation, Don Bosco of New Jersey. In the season to date, the Gaels have scored 88 runs. Throughout the 106 innings pitched, Kennedy has an earned run average of 1.96, meaning that they allow less than 2 runs per game. The team has accumulated 152 strike-outs across those games and only 35 walks.

Senior Spotlights

Gary Gill Hill of Walden threw two no hitters against Salesian and Cardinal Spellman respectively, followed by Brendan Kenneally of Yorktown Heights throwing a one-hitter against St. Rays; Nick Mazzotta of Katonah hit two home runs against Stepinac; Ryan Boyd of Millwood had twelve strikeouts in six innings against Mount St. Michael; Louis Marinaro of Croton on Hudson, serving as relief in the game against Monsignor Farrell, struck out twelve batters in four innings with Pierson McGinnis of Montgomery earning the walk-off hit in that game; Eddie Galvao of Yorktown Heights locks down the hot corner on defense; and Russell Hunter of Croton Harmon has locked down the designated hitter spot as he recovers from an injury.

Juniors Rising

The underclassmen are by no means the underdogs with junior Adam Agresti of Yorktown Heights leading the team from the catcher’s position; Harry Leipold of Thornwood tracking down everything to come to the outfield; Austin Rhodes of Wappingers Falls manning first base; Nick Duryea of Wappingers closing the defense at second base; Danny Duryea of Wappingers emerging as the team’s closer; and Aidan Bergholc of Holmes earning eleven strike-outs in seven innings.

Upcoming Schedule

Tuesday April 26 @ All Hollows at 4pm

Wednesday April 27 @ Fordham Prep at 4pm

Friday April 29 at Iona Prep at 4pm

Saturday April 30 @ Regis at 4:30pm

Coach Bob Fletcher, at the helm of the program for nearly two decades, is proud of his players and plans to let their performance speak for itself. Coach Fletcher is surrounded by support coaching staff that continues guiding and supporting the success of the team.

Blue and White Funding for Education

Today, we are excited to announce the launch of our new capital campaign, Blue and White Funding for Education. Our goal is ambitious but essential: we aim to raise $1.5 million over the next three years to build a fund that will empower Kennedy Catholic to continue offering a high-quality Catholic education to even more students. As you know, the cost of a quality education is rising each year, and we are determined to ensure that financial barriers do not prevent deserving young people from receiving an education that nurtures not only their minds but also their faith.

2025 Hall of Fame Nominations Now Open

Nominations for the 2025 Induction Year are now open as of December 1, 2024. Please note that nominations can be submitted at any time and will be considered by the Hall of Fame Committee.

We invite all members of the Kennedy Catholic community to reflect on the remarkable individuals who have made significant contributions to our school and to society, and to submit their nominations for this prestigious recognition.
