Festive Fine Arts

My name is Amoy Watt, and I am a junior in chorus. I have been in chorus for a few years now and am writing about the annual Kennedy Catholic Christmas concert, which took place on Tuesday, December 6th.

The Christmas concert is an event that the people of the performing arts program look forward to every year! The Performing Arts members include Band, under the direction of Mr. Christopher Melito, Strings under the direction of Mr. Samuel Glazman, and last but not least, Chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Ines Wilhelm-Boston. James Horan ‘23 served as the master of ceremony and introduced each piece.

The concert started off with a lovely and relaxing performance from the Chorus students with “ A La Nanita Nana” and ended with a classical Christmas feel with “Winter Dreams”  with piano accompaniment by Mrs. Lorraine Bernitt and Jake Vanga ‘26. There were also solos performed by Ariel Johnson ‘23 singing “White Christmas” and Meghan Duffy ‘23 singing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Gianni Bove ‘23 accompanied both of these soloists on piano and performed his own solo of “Please Come Home for Christmas,” with percussion accompaniment by Christopher Cilauro ‘25.

Chorus was followed by the String Ensemble with piano accompaniment by John Cassidy ‘26. They started out with a soothing but classical tune “Star of Emmanuel”, and ended with “Sleigh Ride” to complete the Christmas feel. Last but not least, Band took the stage with “Holiday Flutecake” and ended with a timeless song that many people around the world love and enjoy, “Feliz Navidad”.

At the end of the concert, something that hasn’t been done in a few years due to the pandemic was reintroduced – Audience Caroling! This is when the audience joins the performing arts in singing other Christmas songs, which ends the entire concert with a bang. The Christmas Concert is a time honored Kennedy Catholic Christmas tradition, and the kind of love and spirit that embodies this event will not go out of style.
