Football’s Homecoming: Lights and Legends

This Friday, Kennedy Catholic football heads into the playoffs with its first match against Holy Cross.  This will be the first game at Kennedy since homecoming against St. Dominic’s on Thursday, September 29, a 47-7 blowout.  This was an exciting game with a lot at stake, with a huge student turnout, Senior Night, and the pride of our home field to defend.

The second quarter was where the game was made.  Nick Calandros scored two touchdowns, including one off of an impressive 50-yard pass by Anthony Castaldi.  Castaldi himself scored two touchdowns, rushing over 70 yards over the course of the game.  Nick Duryea also scored a touchdown, racking up 92 rushing yards by the end of the game.  Kennedy Catholic also came through on interceptions, thanks to juniors James Arefieg and Robert Cross—who got a pick six.  Another memorable highlight was senior linebacker Joe Plaza’s interception.  In the third quarter, Mark Theriault scored a touchdown as well, securing the game for Kennedy.  Kennedy’s special teams impressed as well, with superb performance on field goal by kicker Andrew Gentile, and a 225-yard game for kickoff kicker Abel Berganza.  Kennedy Catholic played good defense as well, with dozens of tackles, Danny Duryea having the most by the end of the game with 10.  Kennedy’s offensive and defensive lines played a great game as well, executing their responsibilities and keeping up a strong presence throughout the game.

The team is counting on the support of the school community this Friday for another great game and the start of a memorable playoff season.
