Boys’ Soccer can complete undefeated season with win over Spellman today

Boys Soccer looks to go undefeated in 2013.

The Boys Varsity Soccer team has been playing lights-out all season; literally, the Gaels have posted shutouts in eight of their 13 total games, allowing only six goals in that span.  Standing in the way of an undefeated season is Cardinal Spellman, the only team the Gaels weren’t able to beat outright, playing to a 2-2 tie on Sept. 20.

Already the No. 1 seed with a first-round bye in the Catholic High School Sports Association (CHSAA) tournament, Kennedy will face off against Spellman today at 4:30 p.m. in Somers.

Last week, the Gaels topped Salesian on Oct. 15 by a score of 4-1. Captain Kevin Brennan scored two goals, Captain Ryan Trainor netted a firecracker to extend the lead; senior Kevin G. also scored. Chris Mulholland and Michael “Ironman” Donnelly each had one assist. Boys soccer improved to 11-0-1 the following day with a 2-0 victory over St. Joseph By-The-Sea.

The Gaels will host a home playoff game on Friday, Nov. 1.
