3 City Champion Lady Gaels to play collegiate soccer

Hennessy, Lange to sign with Drexel, Lander; Greene to Geneseo

After leading Kennedy Catholic to the first-ever City Championship, three members of the girls’ soccer team will commit to play at the next level on Feb. 6 during a 3 p.m. signing ceremony in the library.

Hennessy to Div. I Drexel

Three-sport standout Kiera Hennessy will be suiting up for Drexel this fall.

Kiera Hennessy and Victoria Lange will sign National Letters of Intent (NLI) with Div. 1 Drexel University and Div. 2 Lander University, respectively, while Leah Greene has opted to suit up for the Div. 3 Knights of SUNY Geneseo.  Collectively, they helped lead the Lady Gaels to the first City Championship in Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) history.  They were also the first Bronx-Westchester team to with the Archdiocesan title, in just the team’s first season in the league.

A sweeper for Kennedy, Hennessy, 17, was named a First-Team All-Star by the Journal News this past season, having earned All-League and All-Section honors in 2012.  She anchored a staunch defense that gave up only five goals en route to the CHSAA state final, and scored eight of the team’s 93 goals on the season, from a defensive position no less.  A three-sport star, the Somers resident was a 2012 All-League lacrosse player, and is currently looking to add to her 2012 All-League Honorable Mention in basketball by leading the Lady Gaels with 20 points per game and an undefeated league record.  Perhaps her signing should not come as a surprise, though, as she will join her eight siblings who also played or are playing collegiate athletics.

Greene to Div. III SUNY Geneseo

Quick-footed Leah Greene will be speeding on to Geneseo to play for the Knights.

Lange, 17, hails from Bedford Hills and was a defensive midfielder, teaming up with Hennessy to keep opponent goals to a handful.  Her soccer resume beyond Kennedy is equally impressive.  She has been a member of the New York State Olympic Development Team for the past four years, as well as the NY Rush Patriots 97 travel team that won the Washington Area Girls Soccer Tournament, PDA Tournament in New Jersey, Capital Area Girls Soccer Tournament in North Carolina, and the Disney Soccer Showcase Championship—all within the past year.  Back in July, her team also won the National Premier League Championship in Colorado.

Though not signing a NLI, Greene will be bringing her much-ballyhooed speed to Geneseo.  She has tallied 38 goals and 24 assists over the past two years in leading the Lady Gaels to the City Championship.  Her 20 goals this season accounted for almost a quarter of Kennedy’s scoring.  She is also a point guard for the girls’ basketball team, which is currently 6-0 in league play, averaging 15 points per game.  The 17-year-old from Cortlandt Manor was All-League in 2012.
