Archdiocesan Champion Boys Soccer finishes 2nd in City

Boys Soccer 2nd in City

In a season reminiscent of the 2007 New England Patriots, the Kennedy Catholic boys soccer team road an undefeated season into the City Championship Saturday night at Fordham University.  Unfortunately, the Gaels could not overcome two second half goals by two-time defending City Champion Monsignor McClancy, falling 1-2.

Yet what the Gaels have accomplished this season cannot be overlooked.  They finish the year 16-1-1, taking a ridiculous 16-game winning streak all the way to the title game. And they gave the Crusaders all they could handle, with Tom Cioffi scoring off a pass from Gareth Esteves as the Gaels took at 1-0 lead into the half.

But the Gaels could not recover after McClancy netted two quick scores at the 10 and seven-minute marks.  In the end, it is always hard to beat a good team twice in one season, and the Gaels had already felled the defending champs back on Oct. 4.

And so another good team finished runner-up in Class A Saturday night.  Though the pain was apparent, the boys have much to be proud of and have brought a great deal of pride back to Kennedy.
