Physics Class and the WCC Superconductor Summit

Physics Teacher Mrs. “I” took 25 students on Friday, 11/12, to WCC for a superconductor summit. Superconductors are materials that have been supercooled (some to 4K – absolute zero is 0K!)and then exhibit negligible resistance to current. Thesesuperconductors are used in MRIs, communication antennas, maglev trains, and various other commercial uses. Faster computers are being theorized and there are electromagnetographs for the heart have been developed. This is a very exciting field and companies in NYS are developing more than 80% of this technology.
