Summer Mailing Information

Dear Kennedy Parents and Guardians,

From Alexander Pope’s 1733 “An Essay on Man” comes the idiom “hope springs eternal”. Where else is that more true than in education and the academic cycle? Greek mythology tells the story of Pandora, and how of all the pestilence released into the world, one good thing—hope—remained in the box. Biology teaches us about the seasons and the plant lifecycle, where we learn how the barrenness and cold of winter gives way to the rebirth of the spring. And theology helps us understand that if we put our hope in the Lord and live our lives accordingly, eternal life will be ours with Him. It is the very essence of our humanity—to constantly better ourselves; to rise anew each day and recommit ourselves to God’s will for our lives.

The Back-to-School season is a time for students, for all of us, really, to rededicate ourselves to lifelong learning. We should be excited by the opportunity to improve upon our report cards, whether school or self-made. Here at Kennedy, we have been actively engaged at bettering ourselves all summer.

When students arrive in September, they will do so to new instructional tools such as iPads and the digital student portfolio, Butterfile. There will be increased Advanced Placement and Honors offerings, as well as college credit through our Iona College Link and St. John’s University College Advantage programs. We will have more National Merit Scholars per year thanks to our PSAT preparation program, and will be adding introduction to engineering, medical technology and nanotechnology to our lineup of courses. And you’ve undoubtedly already heard about the renovation to our gymnasium that includes new bleachers, resurfaced hardwood, fresh paint and a new center court logo.

For Kennedy, Back-to-School really is the most wonderful time of the year. A time our school brims with anticipation as we prepare for another school year. A time when our school comes alive again with the energy that only youth can bring. I hope you’ll share in that energy by joining us for the Golf Classic on Thursday, Oct. 4, or the annual Auction on Saturday, Nov. 10. And I hope I’ll see you personally for Meet the Teachers Night on Wednesday, Sept. 19, beginning with a Naviance training session at 6:30 p.m.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Mark G. Vaillancourt, Ph.D.
