Volleyball finishes among top four teams in state

Lady Gaels at States

In a season of pushing limits, the girls varsity volleyball team pushed itself as far as it could go in 2013.

After finishing a remarkable 18-2 season as the Archdiocesan champion, the Lady Gaels went straight to states as one of the top four teams in New York.  There is no City Championship for Class AA volleyball.  Despite battling fiercely against the strongest teams in the state, Kennedy emerged from pool play as the fourth-ranked team and fell to top-seeded St. Francis Prep, 22-25 and 18-25, in a state semifinal.

In pool play, the girls lost five of six games over the three, two-game matches that would determine ranking.  Kennedy dropped the first two to St. Francis Prep, 18-25 and 22-25; then 15-25 and 21-25 to St. Mary’s of Buffalo.  The Lady Gaels split the last two games with St. Anthony’s, winning 27-25 and losing 17-25.
By all accounts, it was an immensely successful season, the Lady Gaels first in the Catholic High School Athletic Association, which culminated in a trip to the state tournament.  With an Archdiocesan title now in tow and the reaching of yet another milestone with a trip to the CHSAA semifinals, the 2013 girls volleyball team continues to bring a great deal of pride to Kennedy.
We eagerly anticipate what 2014 has to bring for the Kennedy Catholic varsity volleyball team.
