Providing a quality, affordable, faith-based education for nearly a century doesn’t happen by accident.

Such longevity occurs because the parents of Northern Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties continue to seek out a college-preparatory, value-centered, Catholic education for their children.

Full Providing a quality, affordable, faith-based education for nearly a century doesn’t happen by accident.

Such longevity occurs because the parents of Northern Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties continue to seek out a college-preparatory, value-centered, Catholic education for their children.

It happens because a school, founded by Sisters of the Divine Compassion, continues to employ individuals not only of the highest professional development, but who teach and live the ideals of Courage and Compassion.

Most importantly, it happens because those parents and, of course, our Gael alumni, remain grateful for their experiences as part of our school community.  And when they express that gratitude in the form of charitable contributions to their alma mater, they ensure that future generations of Gaels will continue to share the fullness of our Catholic high school experience.

Sister Janet Meehan Student Fitness Center

Sister Janet Meehan, RDC (formerly known as Sr. Mary Leonard), a Sister of the Divine Compassion, was a pillar of the Kennedy Catholic community for nearly 50 years.

Sister began her teaching career at Preston High School in the Bronx before moving to Kennedy Catholic where she taught math, served as the Chairperson of the Art Department, and moderated the track team. Sister is credited with advancing women’s athletics in Section 1 by Lohud and received a number of awards in her career: The Educational Art Teachers Award from Rhode Island School of Design, the Lacey Award from Westchester Coaches and Officials Association and she was named Coach of the Year by Gannett Westchester in 1990 (from the Sisters of the Divine Compassion website).

Beyond the art room and the track, though, Sister Janet’s memory touches nearly every Gael to graduate from Kennedy Catholic from 1967 to 2015. One of such Gaels is Mark Girolamo, Class of 1971. In his appeal letter to his classmates in 2021, Mark explains not only why he has taken a leadership role on the Fitness Center project, but also how he determined the most fitting name for such a facility: the Sister Janet Meehan Student Fitness Center.
