Christian Community Service

Mission Statement:

To fulfill Christian Vocations outlined in Catholic Social Teachings for the Common Good by practicing the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.

For all students: Please review updated criteria for Christian Service Requirements below.

  • Student volunteers may not be compensated monetarily or otherwise for services provided.
  • Services to for-profit organizations will not be applicable unless the organization’s mission is in alignment with the Corporal Works of Mercy.
  • Students are required to complete 30 hours of service per year.
  • Christian service completed over the summer is applied to the upcoming school year.
  • No more than 15 hours can be “banked” for the next year.   The “banked” hours will be applied to the appropriate sections needed for the next year.
  • Students that transfer to Kennedy Catholic High School after freshman year will not be required to make up the hours not served for the previous year(s).

For Seniors: All members of the class of 2019 are required to complete 30 hours of Christian Service and hand in their service records to the deans before the March 15th due date as listed on page 6 of the student handbook.

Christian Community Service

Mission Statement:

To fulfill Christian Vocations outlined in Catholic Social Teachings for the Common Good by practicing the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.

Criteria for Christian Community Service Hours

All qualifying Christian Service must be without pay and beyond the students’ regular chores, obligations, and activities.

Section A: Babysitting, Helping neighbors and family (snow removal, yard work), CIT (Counselor in training summer camp), etc.

Section B: Altar serving all training and masses apply, Church choir all practices and masses apply, Kennedy events and fundraisers, Supervised Tutoring of underclassmen, etc.

Section C: Nursing homes, Hospitals, Shelters, Food Pantries, Charity Fundraisers, Church Fundraisers, Community Outreach, Religious Education Catechist, etc.

Freshman 30 hours

  • Section A: 9 hours/30%
    • Section A hours can be replaced with hours from section B or C
  • Section B: 15 hours/50%
    • Section B hours can be replaced with hours from section C
  • Section C: 6 hours/20%
    • Section C hours cannot be replaced with hours from other sections

Sophomore 30 hours

  • Section A: 6 hours/20%
    • Section A hours can be replaced with hours from section B or C
  • Section B: 15 hours/50%
    • Section B hours can be replaced with hours from section C
  • Section C: 9 hours/30%
    • Section C hours cannot be replaced with hours from other sections

Junior 30 hours

  • Section A: 3 hours/10%
    • Section A hours can be replaced with hours from section B or C
  • Section B: 15 hours/50%
    • Section B hours can be replaced with hours from section C
  • Section C: 12 hours/40%
    • Section C hours cannot be replaced with hours from other sections

Senior 30 hours

  • Section B: 15 hours/50%
    • Hours can be replaced with hours from section C
  • Section C: 15 hours/50%
    • Section C hours cannot be replaced with hours from other sections

Request to have your Christian Service project accepted

The minimum number of Christian Community service hours the 140 members of the Senior class will have completed by graduation.
